Day 24
“When you were stuck in your old sin-dead life, you were incapable of responding to God. God brought you alive—right along with Christ! Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ’s cross.”
– Colossians 2:13-14
Additional Reading: Romans 8:1
We have all made bad choices, made questionable decisions, gone somewhere we had no business being, and even blatantly disobeyed God’s commands. Along with that, we have all faced the feeling of condemnation that often accompanies disobedience or wrongdoing. That feeling is like a deadly virus that wears on us over time, making us less effective for the kingdom of God. We have to recognize that condemnation is a self-inflicted feeling and not actually something that we face. Romans 8:1 states that we are set free from the law of sin and death because we are led by the Spirit, and therefore face no condemnation. Sometimes it may be difficult to comprehend, but by simply trusting God and being sensitive to His Spirit, we are set free and forgiven.
The concept of God’s unconditional love granting us this forgiveness is difficult to accept by most, because in our everyday lives there is always give and take, payment and receipt, choices and consequences. God’s love covers all, and in order to receive God’s love we must believe that He loves us.
Romans 8:1 states that we are set free from the law of sin and death because we are led by the Spirit, and therefore face no condemnation.
Colossians 2:13-14 tells us that through Christ’s ultimate act of love on the cross for us, we are forgiven of our sins and given a clean slate to work with. Condemnation has no rule in our lives. We have freedom from sin and a new beginning through Christ’s love.
